A Positive Approach to the New Year

It’s that time again.

New Years Resolutions are being made.  Health food stores and gyms are enjoying their busiest time of year.  Everyone is vowing to make a fresh start as a new year begins and leave habits that produced poor results in the past.

As you look forward to the possibilities that 2007 holds in store for you and how you are going to reach your goals, keep one thing in mind: The reason that we often fall short of achieving our goals is that we get overwhelmed thinking about all of the effort it will take to get there.  This year I encourage you to choose one goal – just one that you actually write down on a sticky note and place on your mirror so that it is the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night.   Write down the goal and the steps that it will take to achieve it and read it several times a day.  You will have an 80% higher chance of enjoying the desired outcome if you do this.

Here is the secret to making this work:

The words you use need to be POSITIVE.  For example, if losing weight is your goal, instead of writing “stop eating bad food”…..try writing something like, “I am going to look and feel better by making healthy choices.”

Sounds simple – right?  It is.  And very effective.

I was recently interviewed by WPTF in Raleigh on this very topic and I have attached the Link below – enjoy and Happy New Year!
