One of nation’s premier motivational speakers presents “An Evening with Coach Tom O’Brien”
(Dec. 4, 2009) – As a former college and professional basketball player, John Costigan knows the value of a positive attitude and overcoming adversity. He also admittedly has a soft spot for children, which is why he jumped at an opportunity to become one of the title sponsors for “An Evening with Coach Tom O’Brien.”
The upcoming event, scheduled Dec. 10 at Rey’s Restaurant, will benefit the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to help children at a time where we can champion a cause around Christmas,” said Costigan, president and founder of John Costigan Companies. “We’ve historically worked with children’s charities around the world, but when you can help kids in your own backyard it makes it all the more special.”
One of the best motivational speakers around, Costigan’s highly-acclaimed speech, “The Top 5 Things Successful People Do” has been heard by thousands of people around the world, most recently in India.
As a former basketball walk-on at Northern Illinois University (1982-85), Costigan overcame long odds to not just make the team, but to go on to the next level and play professionally. Not by coincidence, these lessons have been translated into his sales training classes, which in itself are unique since he conducts his seminars by demonstrating “live” cold calls into potential customers.
While some of his high-profile business clients include SAS, Oracle and Tommy Hilfiger, Costigan has also conveyed motivational messages to college sports teams. He has spoken to more than two dozen college programs, including Billy Donovan’s two-time national basketball champion Florida Gators, Arkansas, Colorado and Harvard. In addition, Costigan has addressed several professional franchises, including the 2008 NBA champion Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets.
“If we can break through to a young person who is on the verge of greatness, the end result is immeasurable,” Costigan said. “Then one day they’re coming back to tell their story to help others.
“The biggest thing standing in the way of your own success is self doubt. One of my favorite quotes is: ‘If you think you can, or you can’t, either way, you’re right.”’
John Costigan will available for interviews prior to the 6 p.m. event. Media wishing to attend this special evening with N.C. State football coach O’Brien and John Costigan, and receive complimentary seating please contact Dave Droschak, Droschak Communications (m) 919 630-6656.
